This year the Queen will have been our monarch for 70 years. To celebrate this there are national celebrations planned to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee throughout this year, including an extra bank holiday and a four day weekend at the start of June.
This takes place during the school summer half term break. For this reason, schools have been asked to take this additional day of holiday at a different time.
Therefore, having discussed this with other primary schools in our area we have decided to take Monday 6th June as our bank holiday. This extends the school half term holiday week by 1 day and all children will return to school on Tuesday 7th June 2022.
The last two years have been awful for all school-aged children and as a school we have been trying to do our best to provide the best education possible in very difficult circumstances. We are able to offer a trip to London for our Y6 pupils in June this year but this is dependent on Covid and travel restrictions at the time. The activities on the trip would be linked to their learning in school and will enhance their cultural capital by being able to visit and explore our capital city.
Our plans are as follows:
Thursday 16th June: travel to London via train. Visit to see the Houses of Parliament then time to experience the street performers and shops at Covent Garden. Enjoy an evening meal in a restaurant in Leicester Square. Stay overnight in a hotel in twin/triple rooms with their friends.
Friday 17th June: Go on the London Eye to see all across London then enjoy a river cruise to the Tower of London. View the Tower and Tower Bridge from the path and cruise back up the river Thames. Have lunch and walk to Buckingham Palace. Get the train home.
We are willing to fund most of the trip so as many of our Y6 pupils can attend as possible, but there would be a payment of £50 per child. This is the absolute lowest that we could charge but I'm sure that you agree that they would be getting great value for money. Please see our school office about paying for the trip by 4th March 2022. You may pay in installments if you wish to.

If there are no travel restrictions and there is enough interest for the trip to go ahead I will be hosting an information meeting for parents and pupils to answer all questions and give further information nearer the time.
As you may have noticed over the last couple of days we have a company working in school to complete our new EYFS outdoor area by adding new ground works. This is not disrupting any learning for the children and should hopefully be completed over the next couple of weeks if the weather remains dry.
To complete this there is a large amount of sand and other building materials being delivered from tomorrow (Wednesday) which will be stored in our school car park near the bin store. For this reason please can parents, carers and pupils in EYFS, Y1 and Y2 use the path only to drop off and pick up your children. The car park will be out of use to pedestrians for the next couple of weeks while this work is ongoing.
To keep all children safe please can you make sure that your child does not go through the fence or gate onto the building materials while they are in our car park.

New temporary measures have been put into force about PCR and LFT tests for Covid. This means that pupils and staff who have tested and reported a positive LFT result do not need to get a confirmatory PCR test. They should self-isolate and follow NHS guidance. However, you should book a PCR test if you:
LFT test results should be reported online at www.gov.uk/coronavirus. Please also inform us at school if your child has tested positive.
From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a LFT test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their school immediately on day 6.
The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.
If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFT tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.

Unfortunately our telephone system is down today. We can only assume that it is a result of the storm over the weekend. We are waiting for engineers to come and fix it.

We will be taking part in anti-bullying week again this year because are passionate about ensuring that all children feel included and nobody is bullied in school. Your children will do a range of activities over the week about bullying and we will start the week by encouraging everyone to wear odd socks on Monday 15th November. The theme this year is 'One Kind Word' and this will be our key focus in school.
Everyone is very excited about the High Borrans trip starting on Friday this week. So far it is still able to go ahead and I will let you know any changes if they happen.
I'd just like to share the following reminders ahead of the trip:
- Please send a packed lunch with a drink (not fizzy) for your child on Friday
- No other food can be brought from home
- Mobile phones and other electronic devices are not allowed
- A small amount of money can be brought to spend at the High Borrans shop on Sunday night (no more than £10). They will not be able to buy anything at the service station.
- Children must be in school on Friday at their usual time and will leave their cases in the hall while they are in class. They do not need to wear school uniform but must wear comfortable clothes for travelling and will need a coat with them
- The coach will leave school at 10am on Friday. You may come back to school to wave them off if you wish but you will not be able to wait in school from drop-off time
- We will update you during the weekend twice per day via SchoolPing
- Photographs will be shared of those who have ticked to give permission (Wifi permitting) during the weekend, but all photographs will be uploaded onto our school website in the 'children' section after the trip is finished
- On Monday we will inform you at lunchtime what time the coach is due to arrive back at school, depending on traffic. All children from the trip must be collected by an adult
- Please can all pupils attending the trip take an LFD test on either Thursday night or Friday morning. If this shows 'positive' please keep your child at home and send us proof of the positive result so we can arrange for your money to be returned to you. Proof of the positive result is essential before any money can be repaid. All pupils also should take another LFD test when they return home.
The staff accompanying the trip are Miss Edokpayi, Mr Dey, Mrs McGinley and Mrs Hunter. Please ensure that all medication that your child needs for the weekend is given to one of these staff in advance. Two inhalers or Epi-pens are essential for those who need them, so there is a spare in case of emergency.

It is lovely to see our pupils back in school again today. This term is always busy and exciting in school so we will keep in contact with you about activities we have planned. Some plans may change depending on the Covid case rate in North Tyneside but I can assure you that your children will not miss out in school because we can adapt things to keep everyone safe while learning and having fun.
While case rates are high in North Tyneside please can we ask all adults to wear a face covering when coming onto our school grounds again if you are able to. We hope to keep our number of Covid cases low and we are grateful for your cooperation with this.
15th - 19th November is anti-bullying week and this year the focus is 'One Kind Word'. All pupils will be focusing on this over the week so check with your child to see what they have been doing.
