Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Well done to Domina who took part in three dancing competitions on Friday for the first time in nearly 2 years and won first place in every one! We are all so very proud of you Domina!
There are now only a couple of places left for our amazing High Borrans outdoor learning trip which is booked for 5th - 8th November 2021. Every year that we have been able to have these trips the children have had an excellent time and have come home exhausted, but happy. If you haven't yet handed in the form and non-refundable deposit for a place for your child please can I remind you to do this by Monday 20th September at the latest if they would like a place. We can make the decision about how many staff will accompany the trip once we have our total number of pupils attending.
Parents/carers and the pupils who are going to High Borrans are welcome to come to a meeting on Monday 11th October at 3:40pm in our school hall. This will last only around 20 minutes in total. At the meeting I will share all the information you will need which will hopefully answer questions you may have. The staff accompanying the trip will also be at this meeting so you can discuss things with them too if you need to. If you cannot attend this meeting please let us know nearer the time and we will send the information pack home for you.
If you have any questions before this date please get in touch or come to ask me when I am on the yard. Thank you.
This week we have been learning more and remembering more in school. We have had fun recapping what we already know and starting our new learning.
Well done to our first group of winners who will join me on the golden table for lunch today. They were nominated by their teacher for their excellent work and attitudes this week.
Please remember to complete the SchoolPing form every week to book a place at our free breakfast club
We would like to offer you the chance to come into school and see how we teach reading and phonics. This will be on Tuesday 14th September starting at 2pm and will be finished by the time your child finishes school. This will be an informal session with tea/coffee and biscuits. You can find out fantastic ways to help your child to read at home and what we will be sending home each week. Mr Dey and Miss Matthews will be running this session and would love for you to come to chat about it.
Please see Mr Dey, Miss Matthews or Miss Bilton if you would like more information about it. Please can you complete the form attached on the SchoolPing message so we know if you can attend.
Thank you
If your contact details change please give us your new phone number or address as soon as possible so we can get in touch with you. This is especially important if your child is unwell at school and we need to speak with you. We will continue to send most other messages via SchoolPing which comes to you via a free app onto your phone because this is the quickest way for us to contact you and the majority of you have said that you find this easy to use. Please ask at our school office if you need any help with this.
I hope that you all had a lovely summer.
We have had a very successful first few days back at school. Everyone has settled into their new classes very well and have been working hard. The new pupils who have just joined us have all made new friends and everyone seems happy. I have given out lots of rewards for good work and politeness around school already!
The last few pieces of spare uniform are available to take today, so if you need anything please come and have a look.
As always, get in touch with us if you have any questions.
Thank you
From Monday 6th September Y5 pupils will be attending swimming lessons at Hadrian Leisure Centre as part of their PE entitlement in the National Curriculum. This will be during the school day and they will be escorted by our school staff at all times.
Every Monday during autumn term they will need to bring:
a towel;
one-piece swimming costume or trunks;
goggles;
swimming cap if possible to keep their hair dry;
a coat with a hood or a hat to wear for walking back to school
Thank you
Arrangements for September
After what has been another difficult year dealing with Covid we are hoping for more normality in September if the restrictions allow us. Your children have been amazing this year and have coped very well.
Our plans for September are still not set in stone because restrictions may change again by then, but the plans are as follows:
Start and finish times
Nursery = 8:45am drop off and 11:45am collection
Reception = 8:45am drop off and 3:10pm collection
Y1 = 8:50am drop off and 3:15pm collection
Y2 = 8:55am drop off and 3:20pm collection
Y3 = 8:45am drop off and 3:15pm collection
Y4 = 8:50am drop off and 3:20pm collection
Y5 = 8:55am drop off and 3:25pm collection
Y6 = 9:00am drop off and 3:30pm collection
Drop off and collection points will remain the same as they are now.
Lunch and break times
The Department for Education have recommended that pupils can mix again for lunch and break times. Therefore, from September we will mix some classes for their breaks and lunchtimes which will be great so they can play with their friends from other classes again. We will go back to individual bubbles again though if directed to by the DfE or by Public Health England. Your child may bring their packed lunch boxes to school and home again from September if they wish to. They also need to continue to bring a water bottle so they can stay hydrated throughout the day.
Class teachers from September
Early Years = Mr Piper
Y1 = Miss Smith
Y2 = Mr Dey
Y3 = Miss Hancock
Y4 = Miss Wise
Y5 = Miss Edokpayi
Y6 = Mr Chapman
Cover teacher = Miss McFarlane
Breakfast club and after school clubs
Thank you to those of you who completed the survey sent out via SchoolPing around interest for breakfast club and after school clubs. We are hoping that if all pupils return safely in September and restrictions haven’t tightened again we will be able to restart breakfast club from mid-September. We will let you know how to book a place for your child during week beginning 6th September for hopefully starting the club on 13th September.
After-schools clubs are being booked and will also hopefully start from 13th September if restrictions allow. Again, we will inform you of the booking system that will be in place. Please keep checking SchoolPing messages for these booking details in September.
School trips and visitors into school
If restrictions allow, we have lots of ideas for school trips and visitors into school again next year. These add to the learning experiences for your children and we can’t wait to do these exciting things again.
School uniform
Can I please remind you that all pupils must wear our school uniform. This can be branded and ordered from Emblematic or you may buy our school colours from most supermarkets and shops. Pupils in KS2 wear a black blazer with a shirt and tie. We often have some pre-owned uniform donated by parents so if you would like to buy some pre-owned uniform at very low prices please ask at our school office and we will see if we have anything in the correct size for your child. Please check the parents page on our school website for more information.
PE kits
All pupils must wear their PE kit for school on the day that they have PE so there is no need to get changed at school. PE days will be on our school website and a message sent out via SchoolPing from 1st September so you know when these will be.
Thank you for your continuing support for our thriving school. I hope that you all have a happy and safe summer and we look forward to welcoming all pupils back to school on Monday 6th September. If you have any questions in the meantime please telephone 0191 6053407 or email office@wallsendstpeters.org.uk
