The Government has provided funding for school PE and Sport. The funding is being jointly provided by the Department's for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to Primary Schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help Primary Schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. The Government has spent over £450 million on this funding over the past 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016.
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving the breadth and quality of provision in PE and sport, including increasing participation in PE and sport, so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they may be capable of. Schools will have the freedom to choose how they spend the money in order to achieve this.
